Dear Supporters and Friends,
I am thrilled to announce that Mr. Cenac has now received a donation of dog food! Thank you, Stichting Wereld Asielen, all your help!
At the end of May, the World Woof Tour visited our Sibiu Spayathon. 110 dogs were spayed at the event. World Woof Tour brought cameras to document the good work that Drs. Daniel Gheoca and Aurelian Stefan, and all of their assistants did those four days. We will sponsor the transport of one of the dogs, Zara, to South Africa. He will be fostered in Cape Town until the World Woof Tour's mascot, Oscar, returns from his international jaunt, where they will live and play together.
We have made a special section in this newsletter for a plea for help in Braila. The need in this city is unimaginable. RAR sends money for spay/neuter and treatments as we can afford, by a vet who was trained by Dr. Bachman. The street dog problem is massive, and reports are that the city shelter has 1000 dogs, without the capacity to hold these dogs.
Without a mass Spayathon, the numbers of poisoned dogs, dogs impounded, and those being born on the streets to face being hit by cars and starvation WILL NOT END. RAR is the only charity that is doing spay/neuter in Braila. We have an agreement with Vice-Mayor Craciun that the dog catchers will not catch or hurt the dogs that have been ear-tagged after spay/neuter/release. It is imperative to me, as a person who has seen the huge over-population crisis in Braila, as well as someone who has adopted many Braila dogs out to safety, and adopted a mama dog, that this problem be addressed as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support. Sincerely, Nancy

World Woof Tour: Sibiu
"My travels took me North into the Romanian heartland, and I managed to catch up with a sterilization blitz that takes place in Sibiu twice a year. Romania Animal Rescue (RAR) organizes this event on behalf of Animal Life Sibiu. Dr Daniel Gheoca heads up the operation alongside Stefan Aurelian and the pair sterilized more than 65 dogs on the day that I popped in! Yap about dedication. I didn't stick around too long in case they removed my balls--AGAIN!
"It's definitely worth saluting Livia Brenner from Romania Animal Rescue Fund too. She escorted me through my view of Romania, and she's playing an integral part to change the perception of shelter dogs by taking puppies off the street, photographing them and making the public look twice at these 'Lords of the Street'. She's also working at giving these street dogs a title--something like 'Keine'."

Emily
Emily, a 6-7 month-old puppy, was hit by a car in front of a factory in Popesti. She suffered for 4 days with an open wound on her front leg and broken hip. Carmen, from "The Nature-a Heritage for the Future" Association, rescued Emily and brought her to a vet, who cleaned cement and dirt from the wound, operated on her hip and pinned her leg. The leg is now healing, and Emily is now wanting to play! Not so fast, Emily. "The Nature-a Heritage for the Future" Association is trying to get some funds so that you can have another surgery for your leg. Then, you will be able to play with the other dogs until the right family finds you.
Focus on Braila
Spay/Neuter Goal
As of the end of August 2009, we have funded 5,657 spay / neuter procedures! Our goal is to focus the spay / neuter procedures on Bucharest, Hateg, Giurgiu, Tecuci and Cluj / Napoca, Romania. We are also seeking sponsorships so we can spay / neuter more strays.

Gas Station Dog Sterilization
There are an inordinate number of dogs that have been abandoned at gas stations in Romania. Drs. Aurelian and Pepe Stefan will travel throughout Romania with the caravan for this "Gas Station Dog Sterilization" program. They will spay/neuter dogs that have been abandoned at gas stations throughout the county of Braila. These dogs suffer terribly, and are often hit by cars. This program will start in Braila, as this town really needs our help. The Vice Mayor of Braila, Mrs. Craciun, is willing to work with us to address the stray overpopulation problem. After the spay/neuter of these animals, adoption is a possibility! Let's continue to love and care for these dogs.
While we are talking about Braila. The two puppies Daniela rescued in Braila have now had the good fortune of a $950 donation to transport them to a new loving home.
Inappropriate Behavior
A "woman" broke this young dog's back bone while he was asleep. The only explanation for her actions is a madness attack; she dashed upon him with a broom wooden handle, breaking his back bone with 4—5 strong blows.
A dog lover who couldn't pass by this scene took him to a vet and filed a complaint to police on Friday. The x-ray shows the backbone fracture. The dog is shown in photo asleep for the x-rays. The photos show lacerations on his rear legs from dragging himself along the pavement.
Unfortunately, this young dog was not able to recover from the attack, despite the vet's valiant attempt to treat it. The attacker's behavior shows the wrong way to solve the stray overpopulation problem in Romania.
We must address this ignorance by signing this petition.
The Spayathon in Braila this Fall will help educate more Romanians to the benefits of spay/neuter procedures. We owe it to this poor dog to turn this sad story into the positive outcome of helping more dogs and people live peaceably together.

Remember Joey? With much love and attention from the capable hands of Help Labus, he is doing much better. We love success stories like this one!
Vote for RAR
The Bay Guardian, a newspaper in the San Francisco Bay Area, takes a poll of what people think is the best business or location for a certain category. There are over a hundred categories ranging from Best Vegetarian Restaurant to Best Surfing Spot. Wouldn't you know there is a category, Best Local Nonprofit? Being that Romania Animal Rescue is based in Livermore, we would love you to tell the Bay Area that we are the best in this category! Please visit the Guardian's poll, and on page 6 vote "Romania Animal Rescue" as the Best Local Nonprofit. Thank you all!
