Spayed dog

We always need funding for the ongoing spay/neuter program in Romania. The only way the animals will have a chance at a decent life is with support and help from YOU! We continue to work diligently to spay/neuter animals free of charge to the people of Romania, and hope to do this for as long as there is a need.

Our main goal is to spay/neuter street dogs to prevent the birth of puppies. We have joined forces with Dr. Stefan Aurelian, and given him a caravan with vet supplies to travel to towns and rural areas in Romania to offer free spay/neuter to the animals. Almost all of the animals have care givers, and they willingly bring dogs, cats, horses, cows, burros to the free "clinic" for care. RAR pays Dr. Aurelian $22 per s/n, vaccination, and treatment for parasites. RAR provides him with supplies that are donated to us here in the USA and then shipped to Romania. He will be traveling to the Lilia shelter outside of Bucharest where there are 600 dogs (mostly unadoptable, but we want to save as many as possible for adoption, and euthanize the unhealthy and suffering animals). He will perform about 60 s/n procedures with vaccinations and deparatization, charging us only for the cost of his supplies.

Next, we send US vets to do mass spay/neuter and train Romanian vets on s/n procedures in Romania. Very few Romanian vets are skilled surgeons, and cause great harm to the animals. Our vets teach the best techniques for surgeries. We also get a large number of local citizens to bring their animals in for treatment by the American vet! Each American vet program (2 per year) costs $6000, but the training they provide and the s/n they perform make it a very good and cost-effective investment.

We have an ongoing free treatment and s/n program in the city of Braila right now, but it is very small—we can only afford to give $1000 per month for this program. We use two vets who were trained by the American vets, so the costs are only $22 per s/n, vaccination, deparatization.

In addition to these surgeries, RAR has funded deparasiting medicine, animal transport, vaccinations, and veterinary supplies.

When 80% of the street animals are sterilized, we will have achieved zero population growth.
